Experience is a myriad richness.
We think more than we can say.
We feel more than we can think.
We live more than we can feel.
And there is much more still.

– Eugene Gendlin, Focusing

Focusing is a way of offering a particular kind of attention to our own process which helps us become more aware of what’s going on for us.

It is a way to check in with ourselves, allowing us to learn more about a perhaps vague sense we have about something, listening to what we need and moving our stuckness.

Whatever your question, your body knows the answer.

So, Focusing can help with:

 – difficult situations in any relationship

 – untangling emotional responses to an event or situation

 – making decisions

 – writer’s or creative block

 – understanding dreams

 – coaching through life projects and transitions

 – finding ways to express thoughts and feelings about something

 – and much more.

More generally, Focusing can help us relax by supporting us to find out a little more about what’s going on, why our thoughts may be circling or why something is getting to us. So it helps with anxiety and stress, enabling us to resource ourselves.

Focusing emerged out of research into why some people seemed to be successful in therapy and others not. It turned out that what was important was a certain kind of self-attunement that allowed clients to come close to their experiencing and process the energy bound up in our experiences in a bodily way. This is something that can be trained and is the basis of Focusing.

I offer sessions online and on the phone, in which you can be guided through some of the basic skills of Focusing and put it to use in your life. The sessions are a gentle, reflective, non-judgemental space in which you will be encouraged to follow your own directions without being criticised, analysed or advised. All of you is welcome in the session. Everything in a session is treated confidentially.

Focusing sessions differ from therapy in that I offer sessions as and when you need them and you decide how many sessions you would like at any time. They are for learning attentional skills and exploring what’s going on for you in each session rather than working with more complex matters which may be better supported in an ongoing therapeutic relationship. However Focusing sessions may also be a way into therapy.

Sessions last one hour, some of which will be spent finding out what you would like to use the session for and how we might approach that. Fees are by individual arrangement in the range of £60 to £80 per session. I offer a first session for £50. To arrange a session please contact me.

I also offer short Focusing courses for everyone as a way to learn Focusing skills in groups. Please subscribe to my newsletter to be kept up-to-date.
